When it comes to what sustains our livelihood, Durango is no one-trick
pony.
We
are fortunate to have a diverse economy. Consider the sources of
industry that make up our local economy such as farm and ranch, oil
and gas, government and higher education, small business and
manufacturing, health care, tourism and recreation. But in this new
economy, we'll need to do more than just take care of what currently
takes care of us. We'll need to open up new opportunities to expand
the economy and further broaden our diversity. The arts is one area
that has the potential to do that. ..........

Born
out of a conference held in Durango a few years ago, the inaugural
Showcase of the Arts was the brainchild of Downtown Events and
Business Development Manager Bob Kunkel. Although the promised
marketing money to promote the events was only partially secured, the
10-day program will begin today nonetheless.
